I was born in 1969 in Belgium and started triathlon in 1989. What began as a passion quickly turned into a professional career. ​

In 1996 I became the first European ever to win the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, setting a new course record (8:04.08). In 1998 I finished 2nd and in 1999 I won the title again (8:17.17). ​

In 1997 I broke the record on doing the fastest IRONMAN® Triathlon, doing 7:50:27 in IRONMAN® Europe in Roth.

I am also a two-time ITU Long Distance World Champion (1997 & 1998) and European Champion (1996).

 

After more than 20 years as a professional athlete, I decided to share my passion for triathlon and sport with others. I became a coach and I guide athletes of all levels. From complete beginners to professionals, personal bests and slots for IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 is what drives me every day.

I work in a purely scientific way. Over the years I have done extensive research into lactate testing and science-based training methods as a personal coach. Lactate testing in swimming, cycling and running has become one of my greatest passions. It allows me to create precise, individual training plans that help athletes train smarter and perform better.

 

I have had the privilege of coaching many high-level professional athletes, including:

Frederik Van Lierde – IRONMAN World Champion 2013 and 3rd in 2012 and multiple winner of IRONMAN Nice,

Michelle Vesterby – multiple IRONMAN winner and 4th at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

Bart Aernouts – 2nd at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona 2018.

Rudy Von Berg – multiple IRONMAN 70.3 winner and IRONMAN 70.3 European Champion.

 

Today I coach both professional athletes and age-groupers of every level around the world, combining elite experience with precise scientific methods.
