Luc Van Lierde Coaching method of testing and the basis for all information are lactate tests. Lactate is the unique metabolic variable that indicates the capability of the muscles for an athletic performance. Lactate is an output of the anaerobic process and a fuel for the aerobic process. Blood lactate levels during different levels of exercise can measure the strength of each system. No other parameter provides this same information.
Blood lactate testing
Our approach to coaching is based on test results. Feedback from testing is essential for success with any level of athlete.
We therefor organise systematic and appropriately timed testing. These tests will indicate the athlete’s aerobic and anaerobic capacities.
With that evaluation in hand we can now evaluate the training that the athlete has performed since the last (or before his first …) test.
We can calculate the new training zones with the test results.
The athlete then starts a next training period with the adjusted training program.
Training, testing, and then adjusting the athlete’s training program based on what the testing shows.
This is a steering principle based on the training methods of high level athletes.
Available services
- Swim lactate test
Our swimming tests are based on the same protocol that has been used by Olympic Champions and World record-holders for over twenty years. We can provide the best lactate analysis and the interpretation of results – probably the least understood, yet most important, aspect of lactate testing. Our goal is to provide you with all the necessary information and knowledge to develop, maintain and enhance your performance characteristics. - Bike lactate test
You perform this test on (your own) race bike, which is mounted on a professional and highly accurate ergometer. We follow our own protocol, increasing your workload during the test. Small blood samples are taken from the finger / ear for the determination of blood lactate concentration. Our own developed software, based on the latest scientific insight, will show us what causes the lactate threshold to be what it is and how to train it so that it gets better.
The test results will be used to provide you with your optimal training zones. - Run lactate test
Our running tests are based on the same protocol that made Luc Van Lierde the fastest Ironman® athlete in the world and made him the most successful coach, guiding Frederik Van Lierde to become Ironman® World Champion 2013.
Our view approaches the whole training idea differently. The athlete has two energy systems (aerobic and anaerobic). These systems both provide energy but they also interact with each other to affect how much energy gets delivered.
We know how to do these tests and we can provide you with the best lactate analysis and the interpretation of results – probably the least understood, yet most important, aspect of lactate testing.
